So many of you have made generous donations and spent much time in prayer in support of the HPV testing clinic that His Healing Hands has been working to open in Tarapoto, Peru.
We praise God that we have now received all the permits and licenses that are needed to open and operate the facility!
In addition, after working for many months with the Peruvian government’s version of the FDA to have them approve the use of a new HPV testing system, we have also received their approval to import and begin using that system!
One of our board members, Dr. Richard Liu, met with the Director of the local government health system and demonstrated the testing system by giving free HPV tests to 100 women who work in the local hospital.
It has been a long and often difficult journey, but we are now ready to begin offering HPV testing to the community. We want to offer the testing free of charge to the women of Peru. The greatest advantage of the new testing system as compared to others that have been available is the cost of the materials to perform the tests. The testing system that has long been used by the medical community around the world costs more than $50 for each test.
Our newly approved system uses existing technology applied in a new way to obtain results which are just as accurate, but the cost is only about $6 per test!
The new HPV testing system has the capacity to process about 250 – 300 tests per day.
Each test will tell us if the woman being tested has precancerous cells on her cervix. Women who test positive can receive a fairly simple out-patient treatment to remove those cells and preventing cancer from forming.
